9th Annual Sailing Regatta By Trinco Blu – Cinnamon

The 9th Royal Colombo Yacht Club (RCYC) in association with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts recently hosted the Sailing Regatta since 9th consecutive year. This is one of the biggest annual events in Sri Lanka as far as sailing is concerned. It was recently held by Cinnamon at Trinco Blu. The competition this time features a good record of around 49 boats with most skilled crews of the island in addition to sailing enthusiasts aspiring for a victorious spot. The competition was held in one of the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka situated between Trincomalee and Nilaveli. The regatta consisted of boat races where were classified into 3 categories, the single handed under 15, the single handed laser class and the 2 man enterprise class.

There were altogether 21 Optimists chosen from St. Thomas and Royal College and Dhanika Nanayakkara from St. Thomas bagged the winning title in the junior sailing division. Kanila Gunasekara as well as Anuka Samaraweera from Royal College bagged achieved 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The Sailing Regatta was completed successfully and it was indeed a grand event in partnership with RCYC. The resident manager Priyantha Jayasuriya said that they were happy to host the grand RCYC Sailing Regatta and everything went off so smoothly. This is the only sailing event of Sri Lanka which is of national level and it is the 9th consecutive year. Cinnamon always facilitates and supports sporting opportunities as well as lifestyle events in the island. Jayasuriya also said that it’s a great feeling to work jointly with the RCY Club to form a national platform for sailing enthusiasts of Sri Lanka.

It was indeed spectacular to see 49 sailboats in the water all at the same time. The management was quite pleasing to the sailors’ performances and how they continued to keep at it regardless of shifting winds and tough weather conditions.
